Got back around 6:30 am. Another long night again. Summer was running a temperature north of 101 so they took blood and urine samples. She was feeling something around the bladder. Her white blood count was 11, very high for her. The results indicated a bladder infection so antibiotics were ordered. Pain was still an issue last night but Tylenol turned out to work pretty well on top of the low concentration i.v. drip of Fentenyl and the abdominal release from her surgically-implanted On-Q bag.
The big news is she walked and was able to sit upright for around an hour! I expect she will be strolling down the hall today. Knowing her she will just keep on going like the Everyready rabbit and walk home to get on the bike! ;-)
The next major event will be her first fart. Yeah, that's right--farting is key. The digestive system's way of saying, "Open for Business." When that happens the nose tube will come out and she will soon be getting fluids and then chow. Yummy chow (she wants Jimbo's instead.)
She says hi to all thanks everyone for their prayers and thoughts.
Until next post,
Love,
Jim

Thanks so much for taking time to post these updates. We all appreciate it very much.
Sounds like Summer is having a tough go, but hopefully, she's getting a lot of the yucky stuff out of the way at the beginning of her healing cycle, and she will have an easier time moving forward. So glad she was able to sit up and get around a bit. That's huge.
Who knew farting was such an important milestone?! I never thought I'd be encouraging someone to fart, but I hope that "happy" sound fills the hospital room soon, and Summer can move on to getting rid of the tube, and some food.
If you need anything, please do not hesitate to call.
Much love to you both,
Susan

Jim,
Thankyou for keeping us informed...and now just a little funny story to lighten the day..if you rearrange the word 'fart' you get 'raft'...so when the wind blows... the raft will move... and reach the shores of safety...where Summer can walk the beaches again...one step at a time on this journey toward healing.
Love to you both,
AmyJ

Jim,
Thanks for the updates.
Yeah, funny about those signs of health to watch for ... or listen for. Let us know if Summer starts to choreograph steps to the "music", having all the nurses, doctors and visitors joining in a happy dance.
